Wood Flooring for your walls?

Wood Flooring on a wall

Whilst wood flooring in the home is becoming the most popular choice over carpet and vinyl to cover your floors, the DIY enthusiast and interior designers are now looking at installing as feature walls.  As it is available in 100’s of styles and colours there is a wood flooring to suit your home decor whilst complimenting your floor.

How to create a wood flooring feature wall

Instead of fitting wooden flooring planks on the floor, they are fitted to the wall to create a unique focal point.  They can help bring a rustic feeling to the room and a sense of the outdoors, so are ideal for large open plan rooms that open out into the garden.

They can also create a warm cosy feeling in bedrooms or a gorgeous backdrop in a dining room.

We don’t recommend using wood flooring on bathroom walls as unlike the floor, the wall can be subject to excessive moisture from steam that will run down the walls and cause the wood to expand and eventually deteriorate.  If you do want to create a wooden feature wall in a bathroom, then we recommend using laminate flooring or wood effect tiles.

Using wood as a feature wall is ideal when you want to make a small room appear larger when used with wood flooring.

Using wooden planks on the wall not only give a warm feel, they do also offer insulating properties as the wood will absorb the warmth and hold it.

Installing a wood flooring feature wall

The installation process is very similar to fitting to the floor.  You will need a clear and flat wall and sturdy enough to hold the weight of the flooring planks. You will still need to acclimatise the wood in your room prior to fitting for about 2 days.  We recommend asking a professional floor fitter to help install them as it is much trickier than fitting them to the floor.
