Which Engineered Oak Flooring?
There are 100’s of species, colours and textures to choose from so extra consideration is required before making your decision.
Various plank widths and lengths to suit your room
With widths of up to 150mm, there is plenty of choice. You may want a formal look by opting for the same widths throughout or you could look at varying varying the widths to create a casual look.
If you want to move away from the standard length planks you can find lengths of 2200mm and 2400mm. Bare in mind though that these lengths do not offer the same wide choice in styles, colours and textures.
Varying thicknesses
There is not much choice when it comes to thickness. You have either 15mm or 20mm boards. if you are fixing the boards to joists on a floating floor then we suggest opting for the thicker types to reduce the springy feeling under foot. Usually, the thicker engineered flooring will have a thicker top layer of oak.
Choosing a finish
With pre finished planks or oil / lacquered finishes, this is where the choices become more difficult.
If you want the most natural look, then it is best to opt for oiled flooring. This flooring is far more durable and long lasting as small scratches are easy to deal with. If you choose a lacquered finish you will need to consult a french polisher for minor repairs, however, a lacquered floor gives an extremely smooth finish. Only choose an unfinished floor if you choose to colour the floor after it has been fitted. There is not cost saving when purchasing unfinished flooring.
