What is Engineered Wood Flooring

Here we explain what Engineered Flooring is

Available in a huge array of finishes, engineered flooring is completely different to the cheaper laminate flooring.

The core material of any engineered wooden floor is layers of plywood, each layer has the grain running in opposite directions ensuring a solid tight knitted foundation for the top layer to be fixed to. Thee ideal material to look out for is 100% Birch for extra stability. If the flooring is made from several different woods it can effect the overall stability.

The difference between solid wood flooring and engineered wooden flooring is in the top layer. The average thickness of the top layer of engineered wood is around 6mm whereas Solid wood flooring has a top layer of approximately 18mm. Engineered wooden floors have the same overall look as solid wood.
