With oak wooden flooring being a breathing material, now and again you may find that annoying creaks and squeaks may develop overtime. You will find that you can’t get from one end of the room to the other without making lots of unwanted noise.
Unfortunately there is no one cure fix all for these unwanted noise as several elements can causethe creaks although we have a few tips and tricks you can try to soften or eliminate the noise.
The most common reason for creaks and squeaks in hardwood flooring is when the wood planks rub against themselves when under pressure. Real wooden flooring can expand and shrink in varying atmospheric conditions. If they have been installed incorrectly without room to breathe this can cause them to expand against each other and cause the squeaking.
At JG Flooring we recommend running powdered graphite between the planks to act as a lubrication. use a rag to help penetrate the seems. This may take a few applications to completely eradicate the noise.
Another type of creak often originates under the floor and is caused from poorly fitted underlay. We recommend that you use a quality underlay material for your subfloor.
