So you’ve had your solid wood flooring in your home for some time and it has began to look a little tired and worn. It may be time to give your wooden flooring a little spruce up. To ensure your solid oak flooring is looking it’s very best and is protected against the usual wear and tear of a busy home you should consider applying a treatment to it.
Cleaning your floor regularly is essential but you will have to apply or re-apply a hard wax oil to help it last. Hardwood flooring wax is a popular finish for solid wood flooring and will give your floors a natural looking sheen whilst protecting them against scratches and scuffs. Applying more treatment will also help to reduce the appearance of any scuffs and scratches that are already on the floor.
The amount of treatment and how frequently you re-apply the treatment would depend on the amount of traffic your home gets. At JG Flooring, we recommend re-applying oils to you solid wood flooring every 1 – 2 years.
When preparing to oil your hardwood flooring you should completely remove all furniture as this will not only prevent you from damaging your it, but it will also make it easier to get an even finish. Never drag your furniture across the floor as this can also cause scratches and scuffs.. Once the furniture is out of the room you should sweep and dust the flooring to remove any debris that has gathered on it. Use a recommended solid wood flooring cleaner to clean the floor and once dried you should gently sand the floor using a 150 grade sand paper. After sanding you should sweep or vacuum the floor to remove the wood dust.
