So you’ve just had your professionally fitted wooden floor in your home and you want to know how best to look after it so it will last for many years to come. If we had fitted the wooden flooring we would have given you some great advice on how to maintain, clean and protect it. The chances are, if the fitted the wooden flooring has been installed by someone else, you probably have no clue how to look after it.
In the post we will give you the same advice that we offer to our customers after fitting their wooden floor.
First and foremost, your beautiful new wooden floor will need to acclimatise into it’s new environment. Although not practical, it is advisable to let the wooden flooring settle in the room for up to a week before re-furnishing it. We understand that in most cases, it is impossible to leave the room empty for this amount of time, so try to leave it empty for as long as you can. At JG flooring we will advise you how long each type of wooden flooring should be left to settle as it depends on the type of wood being laid.
Before re-furnishing the room we recommend that you place felt pads on the feet of all heavy furniture and chairs so that any dragging will not scrape and damage the floor. After you have furnished the room and you have begun to use it again, we advise that in high traffic areas and near to doors, you should lay mats to prevent grit and soil being brought in and damaging the floor.
Obviously, most of this advice is common sense but is essential in ensuring that your newly fitted wooden floors last for many years. With the right care and maintenance, a professionally fitted wooden floor will add value to your home.
