Tired Old Parquet Wood Flooring
With several years experience working with the style of wooden flooring we have seen 100’s of cases where the parquet wood flooring has become tired and worn. Due to its unique structure of individual wooden blocks that are laid together in various patterns, damage to individual blocks can occur and if not repaired can spread to other blocks across the floor.
When parquet flooring gets damaged or becomes worn and tired looking it is usually down to the owner not knowing how to repair the floor or thinking it is too difficult to do. Parquet flooring repair is really not to hard to repair as long as you have the basic tools for the job in hand,
The main problem with parquet flooring is the blocks becoming loose over time or in high traffic areas. The compound used to fix the blocks can crumble over time causing the blocks to loosen.
JG Flooring’s Approach to Repairing Parquet Wood Flooring
If you are a keen DIY person who doesn’t mind getting stuck into this kind of thing then smaller repairs can be done by yourself, if it is just replacing and glueing a few blocks. In some cases, more blocks have to be removed in the surrounding areas in order to produce or professional repair. Diagnosing areas other areas that looks worn or are about to become loose is what JG Flooring excel in. If many blocks are removed you need to know exactly where they were so it is a good idea to take a photo before you start so you can put then back exactly where they were.
When all the effected blocks are removed, we will then thoroughly clean the effected sub floor of any grime or debris that has built up. A professional tool is used to scrape out the old compound ready for re-application..
When the blocks are replaced, it is common to have small gaps around them due to expansion and the removal of the dirt, grime and compound.
Once the parquet flooring has been sanded this will completely seal the floor whilst removing the gaps.
