We get asked on several occasions whether engineered flooring is in fact real wood or fake like it’s laminate alternative.  Engineered wood is in fact used with real solid wood.  The layers that create the flooring are made with real wood and the top layer is solid wood.

Here we will explain the advantages of engineered wood and it’s differences to other types of flooring including laminate and solid wood.

Engineered Wood Flooring

Even though engineered flooring is man made it is still made of 100% real wood.  Each individual flooring strip is bonded together using several different types of real wood followed by the finished top layer which can be in any type of wood finish including oak and walnut.  There are many benefits of using engineered flooring over laminate and solid wood, these include;

  • Flooring can used in areas of the home not suitable for solid wood, like kitchens and bathrooms
  • Withstands temperature and moisture changes
  • Can be re-sanded and re-finished like solid wood
  • 100’s of colours, textures and grains to choose from
  • Much stronger than solid wood due to its unique construction
  • More resilient against marks and scratches

Engineered flooring is far more versatile than solid wood flooring which is why it is so popular at the moment.  There really are no restrictions as to where you can use it and the costs are more competitive too.  This type of Flooring is constructed of several layers of wood.
