So you’ve finally taken the leap and had your new wooden floor fitted and it looks absolutely stunning, as it should. The next thing is to keep it looking like new and caring for it. Obviously (for a while anyway) you’ll always take your shoes off when entering the house or room to ensure no grit or dirt gets walked in, but although this helps it is not the only thing you can do to maintain your floor.
Our simple guide below will help you get the best out of your wooden floor whilst protecting your investment
Grit, dirt and debris can be seen easily on your wooden floor unlike on carpet, as the dirt is hidden by the fibres. Gently sweeping or vacuuming every few days or when there is visible debris on the floor is recommended. It might be worth investing in a soft microfibre mop as they are far more gentle on the floor.
If you want to wash the floor to remove stubborn stains then you might want to use a diluted cleaning product with a soft mop which is fine for wooden floors as long as you don’t get them too wet. Ensure you wring out any excess water from the mop before applying to the floor.
Adding runners, scatter mats or rugs to the floor will protect high traffic areas and is great if you have small children which ill make it softer to sit and kneel on.
Make sure you buy felt pads for the feet of your furniture and chairs so any movement is soft against the floor as sometimes, you can drag grit if the furniture or chair is moved which could scratch the wooden floor
