So the clocks have gone back and we have already gained form our extra hour in bed, but now we have to suffer the short days and long nights. With Bonfire night and Halloween just around the corner and Christmas less than 8 weeks away this is the time to prepare our home for Winter including our wooden floors. We now spend much more time in our homes so our wooden floors will endure more traffic for more hours of the day.

Check you Wooden Floors
One of the most important jobs to do is to check for any cracks, gaps or splits in your wooden floors as this can allow draughts to enter the room and bring the temperature down dramatically, forcing your central heating system to work overtime to maintain the warmth.
If you do notice any irregularities in your flooring then please give us a call at JG Flooring and we determine the best solution for the problem as this is not a task that you can do yourself without potentially damaging the floor. Your wooden floors aren’t cheap to replace and any unsightly repairs can really affect the value of your property.
If your wooden floors are in good condition, then you may consider giving them a deep clean and possibly look at re-oiling them. Be mindful in following the strict guidelines that came with your floor before attempting any of this though, to prevent any damage by using the wrong products. Preventative Measures
Purchase high quality doormats that reduce draughts and rugs in the room can add to the warmth, especially underfoot. We don’t recommend flooring with rubber backing though as this is not breathable which can restrict the natural movement in your flooring. We recommend purchasing cotton or wool rugs to help the wood breathe.
To prevent rugs from slipping, it is perfectly ok to use anti slips trips that stick to the underside of the rug and do not hinder the wooden floors in any way.
Fluctuating temperatures can have an adverse affect on wooden floors so aim to keep a consistent temperature throughout the winter.
