We all like to get cosy during the winter nights and with the recent energy price increases, we all want to find better ways to keep our homes warm. The key thing to help your room keep in the warmth so your radiators are doing their job is to insulate your wooden floors. Insulated wooden flooring prevents the warmth being sucked into the cold foundations of your home but instead let the heat bounce back into the room.
Insulated Underlay
Underlays are sheets of material laid underneath floating floors. Most underlays will help to keep in the warmth but the thicker the are, the more heat they will keep in. We recommend underlay even if you have underfloor heating as it will help maintain the warmth in the room.
Wooden Floors
Wooden flooring is naturally insulating and warm underfoot and can be laid over underlay to help insulate the room. The more you try to maintain the temperature in the room, the less chance you have of the floor expanding. Engineered flooring is ideal for rooms that have underfloor heating as their structure of plywood and pdf and more withstanding to changes in temperature and humidity.
Laminate Floors
Laminate flooring retains heat like ordinary wooden floors and can be fitted over underlay. We recommend opting for a thicker laminate flooring to help with the insulation. As general rule, try to choose flooring that is 9mm thick and over.
