Always a classic choice for flooring in your home, solid wood flooring is timeless and will always add value to any room. It is made of 100% natural materials and is the most eco friendly flooring to have. If looked after, it can last for many years, adding value to your home too. If your solid wood flooring is not looked after in the correct way it can deteriorate over time.
Understanding how to look after your flooring is extremely important as you could be doing so many things already that could be having an adverse affect on the wood.
1) Ensure you have adequate protection
Simple additions like a doormat to remove debris from shoes are a huge help in maintaining the wood from scratches.
2) Lay Rugs and Runners Correctly
Some people opt to tack their runners or rugs into place to prevent them from slipping under feet and in other instances, double sided tape is used that can remove the protective top layer when pulled up.
3) Use Soft Brushes to Clean
Whilst trying to clean the floor, you could actually be damaging it. A stiff bristled brush could be adding unnecessary scratches to the solid wood flooring when you sweep up. This kind of damage builds up over time.
4) Use Soft Brushes to Clean

5) Don’t Use Too Much Water
Wood loves water, it loves to suck it in and expand in the process, this is why it is not good to use too much water when cleaning the floor. Using a mop and water is still and ideal way to clean the floor but ensure that it is rinsed thoroughly to prevent getting the floor too wet.
6) Use Cleaning Products that are Suitable for Solid Wood Flooring
Ensure any cleaning product that use on the floor is suitable for real wood e.g. waxy product can create a build on the floor and damage it over time.
