Choosing Your Finish for Your Solid Wood Flooring

Lacquered Solid Oak Flooring

Solid wood flooring has endless benefits that we have previously written about, but one of the most difficult decisions you will have is choosing the right finish for your floor.  Here we will explain the various options and try and give you a helping hand in making a decision.

Solid wood flooring is available in numerous finishes including lacquered, oil brushed, and brushed lacquered or completely unfinished if this is your preference.  Obviously, we would always recommend opting for a finished board as this helps keep it protected and maintained.  In addition to this, by opting for an unfinished board you would need to pay out for a professional to finish the flooring, which in itself is a costly exercise.

Lacquered Solid Oak Flooring Finish

A lacquered finish for your solid oak flooring will bring out the knots and colour variations over the floor and give it a real traditional feel.  If the lacquered look is what you are after but you are not keen on the knots being accentuated, you can over order on the flooring so we can select the less knotted and featured planks.

Brushed and Lacquered Flooring Finish

A brushed and lacquered solid wood flooring allows you to benefit from both finishes.  The hard wearing lacquer protection can prevent scratches and marks to the floor.  The brushed affect helps the floor to absorb light and create beautiful reflections, which reduces the appearance of any marks and scratches that appear over time.  It does not make your floor impervious to scratches and wear and tear but it helps you to maintain it

Brushed and Oiled Solid Wood Flooring Finish

The benefits of a brushed and oiled solid wood flooring finish include the gorgeous natural look and feel, with the added bonus of a tougher floor.  The oil treatment helps to reduce fading from the sun due to its UV properties.  An oiled solid wood flooring will keep its original colour for years to come as long as regular maintenance is given.
