What to Choose – Wooden Flooring or Carpets

choose

When considering flooring for your home, the options generally come down to choosing wood flooring or carpet.  Making that final decision will depend on practical or aesthetic reasons.  Both wooden floors and carpets have their advantages and disadvantages, but we hope to help you make the right decision.

Wooden Flooring

When choosing wooden flooring you will get a more luxurious, classic look and feel to your room.  Although more expensive than carpet, it is far more durable and will last a lot longer.  Due to this quality, it will also add value to your home when you come to have it valued.  Wooden floors are very low maintenance and easy to clean, so any stains, marks or spillages can be easily wiped and cleaned.

Wooden floors can be harder and colder under foot, but this can be overcome by clever tasteful rugs in walkways.

Carpet

Carpet will always be cheaper than wooden flooring.  It is often preferred due to its warmth and softness under foot.  In family homes, it’s soundproofing qualities make it ideal for stairs and upper levels and is great for children who may slip and fall down.

When choosing styles and colours, carpet offers an endless choice which helps you match it to your home decor.

On the flipside, carpets can be stained easily by spillages and can become expensive if professional cleaning is required. Carpets are prone to storing dust and animal hair which can prove to be a problem with allergy sufferers.  Carpet is not very hardwearing,  where it looks amazing when first installed, unlike wooden floors the longer it has been down the poorer it looks, the pile flattens and smells from dirt and spillages can increase.
